Halliday Wine Companion Awards 2023 - Brokenwood Wins 'Semillon of the Year'

The Halliday Wine Companion has revealed this year’s winning wines at the Halliday Wine Companion Awards 2023, the industry benchmark for Australian wine. 

For the second consecutive year, judging for this year’s awards was conducted by the full Halliday Tasting Team. All eight tasters – James Halliday, Tyson Stelzer, Dave Brookes, Ned Goodwin MW, Jane Faulkner, Erin Larkin, Jeni Port and Philip Rich – were invited to nominate candidates from their respective regions. The winners were then determined through a series of tastings and round-table discussions, meaning each title awarded is the result of a truly collaborative effort.

Brokenwood is pleased to release an outstanding list of results, including Semillon of the Year for our 2014 Sunshine Vineyard Semillon, sitting at 97 points. 

"The wine's magic has nothing to do with the winemaking and everything to do with the site and 7 years in bottle. The perfumed bouquet of lemon zest frangipani and toast leads into a mouth-watering citrus and honey accented palate. The length, finish and aftertaste sing in perfect harmony" says Halliday.

The 2014 Sunshine Vineyard Semillon is sold out, however we encourage you to try our 2017 Oakey Creek Vineyard Semillon which received 96 points and was marked as outstanding.

Senior Winemaker Stuart Hordern was thrilled with the news along with the results of the range submitted, commenting; "These really exciting results are a testament to the hard work and effort made by the vineyard and winery team over the past 12 months."
