2024 Wondalma Vineyard Chardonnay

			HALLIDAY 96 POINTS

		Tumbarumba, NSW
Careful winemaking has resulted in a perfect green tinted, yellow colour. Excellent complexity on the nose/palate after pressing whole bunches and wild ferment in barrel. Roasted cashew notes from the fine French oak compliment the white peach and grapefruit characters. A fine and delicate Chardonnay that will evolve over the next few years.

		Winemaker Comments
Stuart and Janine Barclay’s Wondalma Vineyard was first planted in 1992, north of the town of Tumbarumba on a north-east slope, in the foothills of the NSW Snowy mountains. The vineyard is 12.5 hectares and is situated at an altitude of 720 meters above sea level. The vines are grown in basalt soil on northeast-facing slopes. The Barclay’s viticulture is meticulous and focusses on shading of the fruit to reduce the incidence of exposed/yellow fruit. The vineyard has two different Chardonnay clones (I10V1 & Bernard 95) and is of exceptional pedigree. This vineyard has produced wines that have won multiple Gold medals at local and capital city wine shows over the years.
Following on from the success of the Maragle Vineyard Chardonnay from 2021 (Best NSW Chardonnay at the 2022 Royal Melbourne Wine Awards, Regional Trophy at the 2023 Halliday Chardonnay Challenge), when the opportunity arose to take the fruit from this exceptional vineyard in early 2024, it was too good to refuse.
