2020 Lakeside Vineyard Pinot Noir
Central Otago, NZ
Medium colour with excellent purple hues. On release at 12 months of age aromas are still quite fruit driven with lifted charry oak. A serious young Pinot Noir with fragrant dark cherry, warm spice and whole bunch aromas. Soft entry to the palate, with dark fruit characters supported by ripe tannins. Oak is noticeable at this early stage but it adds plenty of complexity. A Pinot Noir that will age well over the medium term.

Winemaker Comments
The first International release from Brokenwood in its 50 year history, which came about as a result of the bushfires that impacted Eastern Australia. We are grateful to our industry friends at Maude for supplying these grapes.
The 2020 Central Otago growing season followed a mild winter with bud burst coinciding with cool Spring conditions, there were three significant frosts but damage was minimal. Flowering was impacted by cool weather interspersed with rainfall which set a lighter than average crop.
Post fruit set, the weather was fine, and the smaller crop ripened evenly in the warm conditions. This has produced a wine with concentrated, ripe flavours with natural acidity.
Food Pairing
Pairs well with duck, quail and steak tartare.
Drink
This wine will mature further although enjoyable as a rich young
Pinot Noir. Enjoy over the next decade.
