At 6 years of age on release, the colour is just starting to show some development with yellow tints complimenting the green edges. Lifted lemon curd and floral notes heading to bees wax, brioche and toast. Lively lime juice, Bickfords cordial characters are backed by a superb zesty acidity. The magic of Hunter Valley semillon on display with texture, fruit weight and great length from a wine that sees no oak. The ILR Reserve Semillon is released from the best years and 2014 is a beauty.

Winemaker Comments
Understandably some excitement surrounding the release of this wine. The second consecutive vintage to be awarded James Halliday’s Semillon of the Year is a massive achievement. A wine of great poise, and a strong follow on from the acclaimed 2013 vintage. This is exemplary Semillon. Brokenwood’s 42nd vintage once again got underway a lot earlier than our historical average. The continued dry weather across the eastern half of Australia intensified in early January with a run of above average temperatures, which thankfully tapered off in the latter half of the month. The winter and spring of 2013 were very dry, in fact 207mm in the last 5 months of the year. Semillon started rolling into the winery on January 17th and was complete by February 4th. The fruit for this year’s ILR Reserve is sourced from the Trevena Vineyard on Hermitage Road, an important Heritage Vineyard, with vines having been planted in 1926.
