2014 Sunshine Vineyard Semillon

At 7 years of age on release, the colour is starting to show some development with yellow tints complimenting the green edges. Lifted toast and beeswax notes with hints of lemon curd. Lively lime juice, Bickfords cordial characters are backed by fine, zesty acidity. A wonderful semi-mature Hunter Valley Semillon displaying the classic texture, fruit weight and length synonymous with the variety and style.

Vineyard Notes
Harvesting all by hand. The fruit was crushed, chilled and pressed immediately. Neutral yeasts were used for the fermentation, bottled in July. No oak and no malolactic ferment, only stainless steel.
Winemaker Comments
Brokenwood’s 42nd vintage once again got underway a lot earlier than our historical average. The continued dry weather across the eastern half of Australia intensified in early January with a run of above average temperatures, which thankfully tapered off in the latter half of the month. The winter and spring of 2013 were very dry, in fact 207mm in the last 5 months of the year. Semillon started rolling into the winery on January 17th and was complete by February 4th. The Sunshine Vineyard is located in Pokolbin, near North Rothbury, on the site of the fabled Lindeman’s Vineyard of the same name.

Drink
Drinking well now but will improve with further bottle age.
