Women in Australian Wine Events

A branch of Sydney’s annual Taste of the City food and wine festival, Women in Australian Wine hosts events dedicated to - you guessed it - the pioneering females in the wine industry.

This year’s line-up boasts several incredible must-attend luncheons that celebrate female winemakers across Australia. Hosted at key intervals throughout 2023, the lunches are set to dish up delicious bites, even better sips and inspiring talks from leading Australian women winemakers, all served in picturesque settings with fabulous live entertainment.

International Women’s Day Luncheon

Looking for International Women’s Day events? You’ve come to the right place. First on this year’s sumptuous four-course wine events menu is the International Women’s Day Luncheon in Chiswick, Woollahra. Brokenwood is proud to partner with Women in Australian Wine for this year’s lunch, designed to pay tribute to our acclaimed and up-and-coming female winemakers.

Following in the footsteps of two highly successful lunches in 2022, this year’s IWD event boasts an exquisite selection of food and wine at Woollahra’s renowned Chiswick Restaurant. Complementing these perfectly paired delicacies are live entertainment and guest speakers, including local Hunter winemaker Lisa McGuigan and our own award-winning winemaker Kate Sturgess.

‘We’ll be lunching with some amazing women in the wine industry, showcasing our [Brokenwood] wines, and talking about what it’s like being a woman in the wine industry,’ says Kate.

Brokenwood staff have reserved the best table in the house (in our opinion, anyway), and tickets are available for you to join us in the celebrations. Discover what goes on behind the scenes at our Cellar Door, which wines we’re loving right now, and how women are changing the game in winemaking Australia-wide.

When: Wednesday, 8th March 2023

Indulge in fascinating insights about winemaking and sip on story snippets of life at Brokenwood Wines. Guests can taste truly exquisite wine and food courtesy of the fabulous Roundhouse restaurant, which is nestled in the beautiful Crystalbrook Kingsley Hotel in the heart of Newcastle, all while in the best kept company of other fabulous women sharing a passion for great wine.

Taste in the City

Back for another delicious year, Taste in the City is one of our favourite wine events in Sydney that celebrates women in the industry. This two-day event, located at the Entertainment Quarter in Moore Park, includes stalls, masterclasses, lunches, guest speakers and celebrity appearances from the finest Cellar Doors and restaurants in Australia, and Brokenwood is excited to be involved in the 2023 line-up.

Kate will again lead the charge at Taste in the City, bringing along a selection of her finest creations for tasting sessions and information. With a plethora of awards and accolades behind her, including her place in the 2021 cohort of Wine Australia’s Future Leaders program and a nomination for Winemaker of the Year at the Hunter Valley Legends Awards in 2021, it’s safe to say that Kate knows her way around the glass - and grape.

Kate herself is excited for the shift that’s occurring in the industry, especially evident at wine events that celebrate women’s achievements. ‘The wine industry doesn’t need to be an all-boys club,’ Kate smiles. ‘It’s nice to be able to turn up to an event like this and be recognised as a winemaker, which historically hasn’t been the case.’

We’re thrilled to have Kate representing a predominantly female community here at Brokenwood for this year’s Taste in the City festival.

If you’re looking ahead to book tickets, hold tight; bookings aren’t quite available yet, but keep a lookout on the festival website and lock those dates in your calendars. One of the most acclaimed wine events in Sydney, this is sure to be a delicious sensory feast with some truly impeccable wines.

Rosato Partito Ladies Lunch at Brokenwood

One of Brokenwood’s crowning jewels in wine events is our annual Rosato Partito Lunch. Having recently celebrated the seventh instalment of this deliciously fragrant summer rosé, we’re excited to bring the ladies’ lunch back for 2023 to celebrate not only this popular wine, but also the amazing women leading its creation.

Last year saw such popularity with our Cellar Door Rosato Partito that we came back for two more rounds, one in Sydney’s Ventuno Restaurant in Walsh Bay, the other at Brisbane’s acclaimed Opa Bar + Mezze. Both luncheon’s featured sumptuous food, ample glasses of chilled Rosato, specialty rosé cocktails and live entertainment.

The women of Brokenwood will this year be returning to showcase their talents and share their love for winemaking with you. Enjoy guest speakers, chat with our female winemakers and in-house staff, and join us in celebrating the women paving the way with fantastic new wines.

This year’s event details aren’t quite released yet, but stay up to date with us for all the insider information.

When: Saturday, 2nd September 2023
Where: Brokenwood Wines, Pokolbin NSW
