SVC Releases July 2026
INTRODUCING…
2025 Indigo Vineyard Chardonnay, Beechworth VIC
Tasting Notes
Careful fruit and oak management have produced a near-perfect colour, with a vibrant green hue. The complex nose shows layers of grapefruit and white stone fruit, complemented by subtle bran meal and flinty matchstick characters derived from extended lees contact and French oak maturation. On the palate, grapefruit pith and white nectarine flavours carry through for a long finish. Incredibly complex yet refined, this wine showcases exceptional finesse, balance, and length. Contemporary Australian Chardonnay at its best.
Winemakers Comments
Beechworth is a very important region for us and is simply one of Australia’s finest regions for Chardonnay. The Indigo property has different soils, aspects, clones, and vine ages, with the majority of this wine sourced from the Mendoza clone. A compact harvest at Indigo Vineyard despite the above-average yields. A drier winter was tempered by almost 100mm in October, which helped to set a healthy crop. A dry end to 2024 meant that irrigation was required, but the vines were in outstanding condition coming into the new year. Perfect weather in January resulted in an early start to the harvest, with the Indigo grapes nearly a month ahead of previous years. Despite this, the fruit was in outstanding condition. Picking commenced on the 5th of February under clear skies.
Vinification
Whole bunch pressing, wild ferment in 100% new French oak, mostly 500L puncheons, and has come together in spectacular fashion. The wine was fermented in 29% new French oak and the balance older, from a variety of cooperages.
2024 Wildwood Road Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Margaret River WA
Tasting Notes
Very appealing dense colour with purple hues. Lifted cedar and tobacco aromas with some fine oak in the background make this wine very appealing. A medium to full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon with sage notes, and fine, long tannins from both the fruit and oak on the palate. Lovely acidity and a fine long finish describe a Cabernet Sauvignon that will age for many years.
Winemakers Comments
The eleventh release of our Wildwood Road Cabernet Sauvignon. Brokenwood Wines previously included Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon in blends with the first in 1983. Wildwood Road connects Caves Road at Yallingup on the coast, to inland Carbunup and is home to several high-quality vineyards. A continuation of the form shown by the 2022 vintage, with another excellent vintage in Margaret River. The season started with a slightly cooler start with an extended flowering. This was followed by a warm and dry growing season, resulting in wines of pure fruit and great length. The pedigree of Cabernet Sauvignon from this region is on display here.
Vinification
The grapes were destemmed and spent 14 days on skins.
Brokenwood winemaking is about soft extraction giving beautifully balanced tannins. The wine was matured in 100% French oak barriques for 18 months, with 38% being new.
