We have a motto here at Brokenwood Wines to Make Great Wine and Have Fun but we are also committed to doing it in the most environmentally sustainable way possible. We strive to balance our economic and operational requirements with our social responsibilities to minimise our impact on the environment and surrounding community. Continual monitoring and improvement in environmental performance are key elements of our commitment to social responsibility and sustainability and we have implemented the following initiatives in order to integrate these principles into relevant business practices and to further enhance the quality of our wines.

Brokenwood Wines has been a signatory to the Australian Packaging Covenant (APCO) since 2010, which aims to increase awareness around sustainable packaging design, recycling and re-use in order to reduce packaging waste and divert it from ending up in landfill. As a signatory we have committed to reducing the environmental effects of packaging and report annually to APCO on our activities and improvements, click to view our current 2021 Annual Report and Action Plan.

Brokenwood Wines is a member of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia (SWA) aiming to become certified in 2020. We have made significant improvements in energy efficiency, waste management & recycling as well as in our Vineyard Management practices. Next year we are embarking on improving our Waste Water Treatment in order to obtain water of irrigation quality to re-use on our Vineyards. We have finalised some major projects in 2019.

As part of our commitment to reducing our energy consumption & contributing to a cleaner, greener, more sustainable future, Brokenwood Wines decided to invest in renewable energy in the form of a 99kW Solar PV System. The installation is aimed at considerably reducing our greenhouse gas emissions whilst generating significant electricity savings year on year. The system layout has been designed to maximise efficiency and was commissioned in February 2020.
