Graveyard Vineyard

Hunter Valley, NSW

Planted originally in 1968 and sustainably certified under SWA, the 15-hectare Graveyard Vineyard is the cornerstone of Brokenwood’s red wine legacy. Its heavy clay soils produce low yields of intensely flavoured Shiraz, defining the signature Hunter Valley style for which Brokenwood is renowned. First bottled as Graveyard Vineyard in 1983, the Shiraz gained international recognition with its inclusion in Langton’s Classification in 1991 and remains the only ranked Hunter Valley Shiraz. Composed of eleven distinct blocks that express both history and terroir, the vineyard preserves original vine Shiraz genetics and showcases Brokenwood’s enduring pursuit of excellence.

Oakey Creek Vineyard

Hunter Valley, NSW

Sustainably certified under SWA, Oakey Creek Vineyard is one of the Hunter Valley’s most prestigious Semillon sites and a vital complement to Brokenwood’s Graveyard Vineyard. Planted between 1982 and 1989 by the pioneering Drayton family, the vineyard features free-draining alluvial soils over clay and a gentle easterly aspect, creating near-ideal conditions for premium Semillon. Brokenwood has sourced fruit from Oakey Creek since the early 1990s, and its acquisition in 2021 ensured the preservation of the vineyard while reinforcing Brokenwood’s commitment to sustainable viticulture and regional excellence.

Indigo Vineyard

Beechworth, VIC

Located just a 13-minute drive from the town of Beechworth at the foothills of the Victorian Alps, Indigo Vineyard is a standout cool-climate site planted in 1999 by a group of leading Australian winemakers. Warm days, cool nights, and granitic sand and clay loam soils provide ideal conditions for producing super-premium, low-yielding fruit. With a philosophy of minimal intervention, Brokenwood allows the vineyard’s unique soils and climate to speak clearly through the wines, resulting in a collection of expressive, site-driven wines that capture distinct regional and block-specific characteristics.
