Wine Enthusiast Pack
1 bottle each of:
Oakey Creek Vineyard Semillon, Hunter Valley, NSW
At 6 years at release, the colour is bright yellow/green. This vineyard on the flats on Oakey Creek Road has produced the majority of our reserve Semillons over the years. The aromas are pure Hunter Valley Semillon – part lemon grass and part toasted almond. Similar characters on the palate, texture from the bottle age and nougat and mandarin peel flavours will develop further with bottle age. A superb zesty finish.
Tallawanta Vineyard Semillon, Hunter Valley, NSW
At 3 years bottle age on release in 2018, this wine has the perfect Hunter Valley Semillon colour, pale yellow and luminous green tints. There is a hint of toast, honey nougat flavour and texture with citrus rind aromas and some cut grass in the background. Lovely weight and depth of fruit with lime flavours and soft acid. A great addition to our Single Vineyard Semillon range.
Forest Edge Vineyard Chardonnay, Orange, NSW
Always an appealing colour – pale yellow and green tints. Stylistically finer and more restrained compared to our Indigo Vineyard Chardonnay with grapefruit, lime zest aromas and a ‘struck match’ reduction in the background. Crisp, fresh citrus flavours on the palate from a low alcohol and tangy acid. This wine will reward long term cellaring.
Quail Shiraz, Hunter Valley, NSW & McLaren Vale, SA
In years we are unable to release our flagship Graveyard Vineyard Shiraz, we blend the best of its fruit with the Wade Block 2 Vineyard in McLaren Vale. Lifted red and dark fruit aromas, some plum and ripe cherry. Beautifully integrated oak, but low impact as we are now using 100% French oak and not much of it is new. Firm, ripe tannins underpin the pastille sweet fruit across the mid palate. Red fruit and fine tannins from the Hunter Valley and Turkish delight from McLaren Vale. As always with the Quail (and HBA), the sum is greater than the parts.
Forest Edge Pinot Noir Orange, NSW
Distinctly a cool climate Pinot Noir with limpid colour and bright red cherry/Campari aromas. Bramble/undergrowth notes from the whole bunch ferment carry through to the palate, and supported nicely with 30% new oak, giving a sweet background. Silky tannins and a smooth finish make for a very enjoyable Pinot Noir. Best enjoyed over the medium term.
Wade Block 2 Vineyard Shiraz, McLaren Vale, SA
Vibrant, youthful colour; medium density and lovely purple tints. Being a cooler year the aromas are more on the spice cherry side than ripe and opulent. The alcohol is still 14%. Medium weight palate and again spice and savoury edges. The tell-tale McLaren Vale jube fruit is there along with background oak.
