2023 Verona Vineyard Shiraz

2023 Verona Vineyard Shiraz
HALLIDAY 97 POINTS

Hunter Valley, NSW

A lovely mid-density colour with purple hues. Classic Hunter Valley red fruit with bramble spice on the nose. The ripe berry fruit carries onto the palate, with the natural fruit acid and fine tannin giving great length. Some liquorice notes to finish. A classic medium weight Hunter Valley Shiraz that will age gracefully over the medium term.

Wine Profile
Vinification
Processing started with a 3-4 day cold soaking and then a 4-5 day ferment at 24-26C. The vineyard is on heavy clay, similar to the Graveyard Vineyard but the southerly aspect gives a more floral character. The oak regime for this wine is 100% French oak puncheon, with no new oak.
Winemaker Comments
The Verona Vineyard is across the road from our Graveyard Vineyard and has been under Brokenwood’s care for the past 18 years. First planted in 1968 on a gentle south-facing slope, with subsequent plantings in 2002, the original cuttings are from old vineyards in the region. This is the ninth bottling of Verona as a Single Vineyard wine.
Food Pairing
Osso bucco, steak, lamb and cheese.
Drink
Drinking very well now but will age over the medium term.
