Ian and Lise Bell’s Maragle Vineyard was planted in 1994, south east of the town of Tumarumba in the foothills of the NSW Snowy mountains. The Chardonnay vineyard has two different clones (I10V1 & P58) and is a vineyard of exceptional pedigree. This vineyard has produced wines that have won multiple Gold medals at local and capital city wine shows over the years.
When the opportunity arose to take the fruit from this exceptional vineyard in late 2019, it was too good to refuse. Unfortunately the bushfires of 2020 delayed our first intake to 2021 abut the resultant
wine is worth the wait.
Above average spring rainfall coupled with cooler temperatures delayed budburst and lowered yields. Rain in February prolonged ripening and retained acidity, producing small amounts of high quality Chardonnay with great purity and finesse.
Seafood to light meats.
Whole bunch pressing, natural ferment in 100% French oak have come together in spectacular fashion. The wine was fermented in 30% new French oak and the balance older, from a variety of cooperages.
Drinking well now but will improve with further bottle age.
