2018 Indigo Vineyard Pinot Noir

2018 Indigo Vineyard Pinot Noir

Beechworth, VIC

Lovely mid density colour with youthful purple tints. Earthy forest notes on the aroma from the French oak and
whole bunch inclusion. Initial flavours of ripe strawberry and candied pomegranate. Beautifully balanced palate, ripe tannins, sweet fruit and perfect acid back bone. A Pinot Noir that will build in complexity with further bottle age or rewarding now.

Wine Profile
Retention of fruit character is always important. Processing involved cold soak of the must for a few days and included approximately 20% whole bunches in the ferment. No post ferment maceration was under taken. Oak maturation was in predominantly used French oak barriques and bottled at the 12 month mark. This wine is a blend of the 3 clones 114, 115 & MV6.
Winemaker Comments
Sufficient winter rainfall in 2017 saw the vines off to a good bud burst and then 55mm of rain in early December was very welcome. Particularly as temperatures had started to climb with highs of 34C and then 35C in December. January 2018 saw a top temperature of 40.7C tempered with a much needed 70mm of rain towards the end of January. Harvest progressed under clear blue skies.
Food Pairing
Enjoy with duck, quail or steak tartare.
This wine will mature further although enjoyable as a rich young Pinot Noir. Enjoy over the next decade.
