2017 Pinot Noir Image

2017 Pinot Noir

Beechworth, VIC

A terrific year for Pinot Noir and it shows in every aspect of this wine. Light to medium density with purple edges. Lifted smokey, dark cherry and pastille aromas that keep you returning to smell them. Perfect ‘sweet fruit’ flavours on the initial palate and then a slight maraschino cherry note. Sweet oak and juicy acidity give a long lasting flavour combination. A wine of unrestrained pleasure and can be enjoyed in the short term or over the next few years.

Wine Profile
Retention of fruit character is always important. Processing involved cold soak of the must for a few days and included approximately 10% whole bunches in the ferment. No post ferment maceration was under taken. Oak maturation was predominantly in used French oak barriques and bottled at the 12-month mark.
Winemaker Comments
Brokenwood has been producing Pinot Noir from the Indigo Vineyard since 2002. As there are three clones planted over different sites, there is opportunity to process as a number of different parcels, hence we have the Varietal wines as well as Single Vineyard wines. Excellent winter rainfall and a dry spring were perfect ingredients for a top vintage. A consistent harvest was had after the very compressed vintage in 2016. The first fruit was harvested on the 18th of February, 16 days later than 2016. The fruit quality was excellent across the entire vineyard.
Food Pairing
Duck and Pinot is a classic combination, also try with quail and steak tartare.
Drinking well now however will improve with further bottle age.
