Super colour with dark reds and purple tints. Riper dark fruit aromas than previously vintages, due to a warm year in McLaren Vale. The vanillin oak background adds extra lift to the dark cherry/plum aromas, and finishes with a ripe tannin mouth feel. Turkish delight and dark chocolate from the Shiraz component, makes this a very enjoyable Cricket Pitch blend.

Vinification
Mostly vinomatic fermenters used, after 2-3 day cold soak prior to ferment. This wine is matured in French oak up to 18 months with a small percentage being in new oak barrels.
Winemaker Comments
The 26th vintage of Cricket Pitch Red (not counting the 1986) is both multi-varietal and multi-regional.
Just over 60% of the fruit is from NSW with the balance coming from McLaren Vale followed by Beechworth. A cool year in the Hunter Valley but excellent in Central Ranges and Gundagai with McLaren Vale experiencing a hot vintage. Vintage 2016 was
outstanding in Beechworth and the combination of these regions really does deliver a super enjoyable dry red.
