2015 Four Winds Vineyard Shiraz 1.5L
Canberra District, ACT
Beautiful colour of deep red with purple hues. Shiraz from this part of the world has a red spice note and with the use of whole bunches in the ferment, the result is a complex briar wood/red fruit character. The palate starts out with soft pastille fruit flavours and has long ripe tannins. The oak is evident but does not dominate and allows the cool climate spice to shine.

Winemaker Comments
Brokenwood’s third release of Murrumbateman Shiraz from the Four Winds Vineyard. This small, cool climate viticultural region is half way between Canberra and Yass and the home of some very fine wineries such as Clonakilla and Helm.
As well as spicy Shiraz, the area has been making a name for itself with racy, slatey Rieslings. A very dry winter and spring of 2014 meant a slow recovery from the big frost of 2013. Just over 200mm in December 2014 and January 2015 saved the day and the vines sailed through until picking on the 19th of March 2015.
Food Pairing
Wild game and any red meat dishes.
Production
Hand-picked, the fruit was transported to the Brokenwood winery for vinification. Bunches were de-stemmed, with 20% remaining as a whole bunch component for fermentation in open vats. A three day cold soak was followed by 10 further days on skins for fermentation. Gentle
plunging twice daily. The pressed wine went straight into a one year old 2800L French cask for maturation. Bottled in January 2015.
Drink
Best consumed over the medium term.
