Pinot Noir is a variety that has always demanded a little more curiosity. Delicate, expressive and notoriously site-sensitive, it can produce wines that are as much about fragrance, texture and place as they are about fruit. At Brokenwood, our Pinot Noir story has taken us beyond the Hunter Valley to some of Australia’s cooler and more naturally suited regions, where the variety can truly shine.

Our Pinot Noir portfolio now includes the 2025 Brokenwood Pinot Noir, 2025 Indigo Vineyard Pinot Noir and, the recently released 2025 Forest Edge Vineyard Pinot Noir. Each wine offers a different expression of the variety, reflecting its vineyard site, climate and the approach taken in the winery.

Indigo Vineyard Pinot Noir

Our relationship with Indigo Vineyard began with its establishment in 1999, with the vineyard planted with the purpose of supplying fruit to Brokenwood. Located in Beechworth, Victoria, Indigo has now reached around 25 years of age, giving the vines a level of maturity that contributes to the character and consistency of the fruit.

It is a remarkable site for varieties that benefit from a cooler climate, particularly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. For Brokenwood, Indigo has become a trusted source of fruit and a vineyard that continues to produce wines with impressive fragrance, delicacy and structure.

The 2025 Indigo Vineyard Pinot Noir is one of the most exciting expressions we have produced from the vineyard. Fermented with approximately 30% whole bunches using MV6 and 115 clones, the wine spent around nine months in French oak, with approximately 30% new oak. The result is a Pinot Noir that focuses on fragrance, fine tannins and texture, while allowing the character of the vineyard to come through.

Forest Edge Vineyard Pinot Noir

Making its come back to the Brokenwood Pinot Noir family is the 2025 Forest Edge Vineyard Pinot Noir, from Orange, NSW, one of Australia’s premium cool-climate regions. Established by Rob Crawford in 1988, Forest Edge is one of the region’s older vineyards, providing mature vines and a distinctive site for Pinot Noir.

The 2025 vintage was relatively calm, with mild temperatures and ripe tannins. Fruit was picked on 5 March, with a few days of cold soak and approximately 10% whole bunch used during fermentation to retain freshness and fruit character. The wine was matured predominantly in used French oak and bottled after 10 months.

Pale in colour with a youthful red tint, the wine shows lifted red cherry and Chinese five spice, with bright red fruit, red spice and subtle bramble complexity on the palate. At 13% alcohol, it is a lighter-weight style with minimal oak influence, making it an elegant and approachable expression of Orange Pinot Noir.
