Variety: 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot & 25% Shiraz.
Region: McLaren Vale – SA; Beechworth – VIC; Hunter Valley - NSW

Winemakers' Comments
McLaren Vale enjoyed one of its best vintages for many years, with flavoursome whites and rich ripe reds. Beechworth bounced back after the heat and fires of 2003. Very good rains through winter and a hot dry summer.
In the Hunter Valley a glorious but dry winter followed the excellent 2003 vintage. With only 5 days of rain from June to September irrigation was essential during this time. A very good budburst and fruit set with a bit much fruit on some blocks. Spring was mainly fine, with one heavy down pour in late November. The waiting game for the reds didn’t go our way, with 123mm of rain on the 25th and 26th of February. Further rain in early March meant lower than desired sugars but at least no mould problems.

Vinification
Mostly vinomatic fermenters used, after 2-3 day cold soak prior to ferment. Oak regime is mainly 1-3 year old American and French oak barriques, up to 18 months.

Tasting Notes
Mid density colour with purple edges. Aromas of red cherry, spice and earthy edges. Mid weight palate with some Cabernet Sauvignon cedar up front that leads to soft Shiraz richness. The oak regime is mainly older American and French so limited impact although some vanillin on both nose and palate with a long sweet finish. A drink now style that will further soften with medium term bottle maturation. Excellent fruit flavours and balance being the features that will be maintained under the screw cap packaging.

Food
Rich seafoods, pasta and light meat dishes.
