Deluxe Mixed Red Dozen (12pk)
3 bottles each of:
2016 Sangiovese, Beechworth, VIC
Very fragrant and appealing nose of red/maraschino cherry aromas. The background shows sweet oak, although the wine was not in any new barrels. Bright, savoury Sangiovese fruit on the palate with juicy acidity. Typical drying tannins and red spice/ ginger notes with a great finish. Immensely enjoyable.
2012 Friends Selection Cabernet Sauvignon, Central Ranges NSW, Beechworth VIC & Hunter Valley NSW
Lifted cassis and leafy fruit with cedar/vanillin oak background. Very sweet entry to the palate and quite firm (but not aggressive) ripe tannins. Good alcohol weight. Dusty tobacco Cabernet Sauvignon flavours on the finish.
2014 Cricket Pitch Red Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, South Eastern Australia
Vibrant colour and mid density. Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz blends and vice versa, are often referred to as the great Australian blend, although the Bordelaise would disagree seeing it was common in Bordeaux in the 1800s. Best of both varieties with red fruit Cabernet and fine tannins with the Shiraz providing mouth feel and palate length. A style all about fruit, some oak background but soft tannins and an easy drinkability.
2 bottles of:
2013 Area Blend Shiraz, McLaren Vale, SA, Hunter Valley, NSW, Beechworth, VIC
Dense colour with deep purple hues. Complex aromas of dark chocolate and vanillin oak lift. The Hunter Valley component adds a savoury spice element but the dominant feature is the black fruit pastille of McLaren Vale. Ripe dusty tannins that will benefit the wine over the next 10 years or so.
1 bottle of:
2013 Wade Block 2 Vineyard Shiraz, McLaren Vale, SA
Great colour with bright purple tints and deep density. Lifted Christmas cake aromas enhanced with background oak. Medium weight palate with spice and dark fruit flavours. Lovely ripe balanced tannins. Telltale pastille black jube fruit characters with a long finish. A big future ahead for this wine.
