2015 Indigo Vineyard Pinot Noir

2015 Indigo Vineyard Pinot Noir

Beechworth, VIC

Quite pale in colour with youthful purple edges on release at 18 months of age. Lifted red fruit notes and ginger spice aromas plus 'forestry bramble' characters. These follow to the palate, which in keeping with the colour is mid-weight. Earthy red spice flavours and background vanillin oak give the palate plenty of depth. A very good structure, fruit and acid balance will see this develop complex tertiary characters with bottle age.

Wine Profile
Retention of fruit character is always important. Processing involved cold soak of the must for a few days and included approximately 20% whole bunches in the ferment. No post ferment maceration was under taken. Oak maturation was in predominantly used French oak barriques and bottled at the 12 month mark. This is a blend of the 3 clones 114, 115 & MV6.
Winemaker Comments
Brokenwood has been producing Pinot Noir from the Indigo Vineyard since 2002. As there are three clones planted over different sites there is the opportunity to process as a number of different parcels. Hence we have the varietal bottling as well as a Single Vineyard wine. Beechworth is a very important region for us and the vineyard is back in prime condition following the frost event of October 2013. An excellent winter and spring leading up to a fine summer with some rain in mid-January but not enough to cause any concern.
Food Pairing
Enjoy with duck, quail or steak tartare.
This wine will mature further although enjoyable as a rich young Pinot Noir. Enjoy over the next decade.
