Whole bunch pressing, wild ferments in new French oak have come together in spectacular fashion. The wine was fermented in 35% new French oak and the balance older, from a variety of cooperages.
The Orange district is widely recognized as one of Australia’s premium cool climate regions. Rob Crawford established the ‘Forest Edge’ Vineyard in 1988. Vintage 2014 is Brokenwood’s 15th year of handling fruit from Forest Edge.
The very wet winter of 2013 set up an excellent growing season with just enough rain through November, December and January 2014. Unfortunately February had 9 wet days for nearly 100mm and the Chardonnay ripening slowed. All eyes were on the weather and with 34mm falling on the 2nd March, it was enough for us to pick everything.
Seafood and veal.
Drinking well now but will improve with further bottle age.
