2016 Indigo Vineyard Pinot Noir

2016 Indigo Vineyard Pinot Noir

Beechworth, VIC

Our Indigo Vineyard Pinot Noir is pale in colour that belies the wines complexity. The palate is mid-weight but has great density of flavour with lovely red fruit and ginger spice notes. Subtle bramble and char from the French oak and fine-grained tannins to finish provides a perfect structure with fruit and acid balance that will see this develop complex tertiary characters with further age.

Wine Profile
Retention of fruit character is always important. Processing involved cold soak of the must for a few days and included approximately 20% whole bunches in the ferment. No post ferment maceration was under taken. Oak maturation was in predominantly used French oak barriques and bottled at the 12 month mark. This is a blend of the 3 clones 114, 115 & MV6.
Winemaker Comments
A very cold and wet winter of 2015 meant a late budburst, however set the vines up for a great spring. A warm summer did mean irrigation was necessary and picking was very condensed. The last grapes off were nearly a month ahead of previous years, however this worked in our favour as there was a heat wave in early March. Overall, an excellent vintage.
Food Pairing
Enjoy with duck, quail or steak tartare.
This wine will mature further although enjoyable as a rich young Pinot Noir. Enjoy over the next decade.
